it’s “can I trust this file.” Here’s exactly what we do, and what we don’t, so you know
where our checks end and your own judgment should start.
What We Actually Do
Every app or game listed on ApkPrompt is sourced directly from the developer’s official
listing — not from unofficial mirrors, forums, or third-party repositories. Before we
publish a listing, we check two things against the official source:
- Package name match — we confirm the app’s package identifier matches what the
developer publishes officially. A mismatched package name is one of the clearest signs
of a cloned or repackaged app, so this is the first thing we check. - Version and publisher match — we confirm the version number and publisher name
align with the current official listing at the time we publish.
Our Verification Roadmap
Right now, our safety checks focus on sourcing — confirming every file’s package name
and version match the developer’s official listing. We’re actively working toward adding
automated malware scanning as the next layer, so every file gets checked against multiple
antivirus engines before it’s published.
What You Should Still Check Yourself
Sourcing verification reduces risk, but it doesn’t replace your own judgment. Before
installing any APK — from this site or anywhere else — we recommend:
- Compare the file size shown on the listing against the current official Play Store
listing. A large mismatch in either direction is worth pausing on. - Check the permissions requested during install. A simple calculator app asking for
contacts or SMS access, for example, is a red flag regardless of where you got it. - Expect a Play Protect warning when installing any APK outside the Play Store — this
is standard behavior for sideloading, not a verdict on the specific file, but it’s still
worth confirming the source before dismissing it. - Run the file through a free scanner yourself if you want an extra layer of
